Communication exercise – positive
- Practice this exercise 3 times a week for 10 minutes.

- Decide who is going to talk and who will listen.

- The speaker talks briefly for 2 minutes or less about something they like about the listener or something they both enjoy.

- The listener summarizes what has been said and their understanding of how the speaker feels.

- The speaker says if this is correct and corrects this if necessary.

- Swap roles – if the new speaker responds to what the original speaker said - this is fine but make sure you follow the exercise.

- The new listener summarizes what the speaker said and how they feel in the same way as before.

- If either person becomes upset slow down and the other person summarizes how they feel

- Try to emphasize positive feelings and positive things that have or are happening.
