Being - Well

Awareness - our conscious mind

We have conscious influence over -

  • Awareness
  • Attitude
  • Aims
  • Actions

We can actively use these four aspects of our mind to understand and work with any goal or problem.

Awareness
Awareness
  • We can choose where we focus our conscious awareness, and we can practice bringing it back there
  • We can increase our awareness of our environment, our bodies, minds & other people
  • Whatever we are consciously aware of creates our experience of the present
    • Looking in wonder brings joy
    • Worrying about the future brings fear
    • Plan the future, with others, when relaxed & creative

Mindfulness Meditation – awareness of the mind

Practice thinking in a more helpful way

Know your own mind

Practice to increase self awareness

What is the mind????

Attitude
Attitude
  • We can choose the attitude or approach to life we wish to have & deliberately bring this into our mind
    • Kind
    • Grateful
    • Courageous
    • Respectful
    • Forgiving
    • Loyal
    • Determined

We can choose how we want to be and then practice

like learning the words to a song - the more we think about something the more naturally it arises in our mind.

Aims
Aims
  • Each of us can choose what is meaningful & important to us

  • What gives our life meaning? What do we love?
    • Being adventurous & exploring
    • Being creative
    • Learning – about the world, people, the stars
    • Helping other people, animals or the environment
    • Being with & caring for family & friends

We can bring this into our mind regularly

"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards."

Soren Kierkegaard.

Choosing our direction

Actions
Actions
  • In most situations we consciously choose our actions
  • By staying calm & considering the effect of our actions we can take action that is helpful & moves us in the direction of our aims

Not always easy to do but the more we practice the better we get!

Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom”

Victor E. Frankl
